Biography

The mezzo-soprano Erica Hotts was born in Sao Paulo, and had her first contact with music at the age of seven. She studied piano, eletric and acoustic guitar, and she began her vocal practice with Natalia Aurea.

She studied at the 29th Music Workshop of Curitiba in the Neyde Thomas class, and at the 15th Music Festival in the Mountains in the class of Celine Imbert, Francisco Campos and Susan Ruggiero, where she participated in the opera Treemonisha, by Scott Joplin. She studied at the Opera University Nucleus of Sao Paulo. For the Unesp Opera Factory, she played the role of Third Lady in Mozart’s The Magic Flute, and also played Miss Todd, the protagonist of Gian Carlo Menotti’s “The Lady and the Thief”.

She had her first international experience in 2016 when she sang in the choir of Verdi’s Macbeth and Eugene Onegin in Tchaikovsky at the Dorset Opera Festival in England.

She played the role of Annie in the Chicago musical, a theater exercise performed by the House of Working Arts. She also played the role of Mercuccio and Ama in the musical Romeo and Juliet, a rock opera, by the Lusco Fusco Theater Company.

She was a member of the Young Choir of the State of Sao Paulo, under the direction of Naomi Munakata and Fernando Tomimura.

She was a conductor of the UNESP Community Choir and the Senac Vila Prudente Choir.

She graduated from UNESP, where she was directed by Abel Rocha, Lutero Rodrigues, Achille Picchi and Flo Menezes.

She currently studies singing with Paulo Menegon.

The Old Maid and the Thief (2016)

UNESP Operas Factory had presented this fun opera about the story of Miss Todd, an old maid who falls in love with Bob, a beggar. Miss Todd begins to do little thefts to satisfy her beloved. Besides, the village discovers that a terrible thief is away from jail and the Old Maid imagines that Bob is the thief. The village panics with the thief who is, in fact, Miss Todd herself.

Eugene Onegin (2016)

A bored young aristocrat rejects the love of a girl and kills her best friend in a duel. He only regret that when nothing else can remedy his actions. Based on Alexander Pushkin's novel (1799-1837), one of the masterpieces of 19th century literature, "Eugene Onegin" is the most staged Russian opera in the West, overcoming the language barrier.

The Magic Flute (2016)

In Ancient Egypt, a young man has to overcome series of tests to prove he is brave enough to deserve the heart of his beloved. Rich in Masonic allegories and rituals, "The Magic Flute" is recognized as one of the leading German opera titles.                                                     

The Austrian Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart (1756-1791) wrote "The Magic Flute" in his last year of life and achieved the prowess of making a "popular" spectacle, of direct communication with the public, without giving up the rigor and the sophistication.

Romeo and Juliet - Opera Rock (2016)

In the Italian city of Verona, the families Montecchio and Capuleto fight eternally. When Romeo, a handsome young Montecchio, goes to a Capulets ball, he falls in love with the beautiful Juliet, a Capulet. After a brief courtship, the two flee, creating big tensions between the families.                                                   

This creative version, performed by the Lusco-Fusco Theater Company, has united the classic Shakespeare story with popular rock songs that fit perfectly into the context of the characters.

Macbeth (2016)

Encouraged and abetted by his wife, Macbeth attempts to remove the various obstacles preventing him from becoming king. He accepts the prophecy of witches as a guide to what will be, and misjudges what they tell him. In the end, believing that he cannot be harmed when really he is just mortal like everyone else, his overconfidence leads to his downfall.
